What is a CONduit Panel?

It is the most common way people volunteer to participate in the event, share their knowledge with the attendees, and open the floor to discussions. This typically covers a single topic with more than one person at a time. Each panel runs an hour and a half to three hours depending on the size of the team involved in the panel.

What is a CONduit Chill ‘n’ Chat?

A Chill’N’Chat is where we gather for downtime during the event. In Person events often have places to gather, engage in activities, and assorted other interesting fun. For our Online Live Event our Chill ‘n’ Chats behave as such.

Some you’ll find activities such as writing sprints or workshops. Others will host interviews and offer opportunities for live readings. Either way, it’s a change from normal panel discussions and an opportunity to connect with the network of people attending the conference with you.

Griffins know they must stay in contact with their Chimera and be ready for their panel at the correct time.

What is a Chimera?

A Chimera is the lead for the panel/presentation. They need to have one head ready to keep the conversation moving, another head looking for audience questions, and a third head looking to add their own input to the panel. They must be in contact with their Unicorn, Sphinx, and Griffins.

Other Duties:

Chimeras are in charge of gathering Griffins and harnessing them for a great panel! Once all Griffins have been harnessed, please contact a Dragon and confirm your Griffin team.

What is a Unicorn?

A Unicorn is the streamer who does the broadcasting from their personal Twitch channel, AKA their Grove. Yes, you must have an active Twitch account to apply, “active” being in use for 3 streams of 30 minutes of more at least 2 weeks before CONduit starts.

Unicorn duties:

  • Guards the grove against trolls and bots (bans/blocks trolls & bots during the stream), works with the Sphinx
  • Controls who has magical access to the Grove
  • Heals tech issues; may offer healing to other groves (understands the basics of streaming; may choose to volunteer their stream if tech failed for another Unicorn)
  • Directs people to where they can go next (answers basic questions about where people should go)

What if I miss a panel I wanted to see?

Not a problem. First, check the schedule and find out what Twitch Channel it was on. Next go to that channel and see if they have a VOD (Video on Demand) of the panel. Many Unicorns save the VODs so people can immediately watch the panel again.

All event panels and discussions are eventually shared on the WritersConduit YouTube channel. If you haven’t followed it yet, click the link and see what’s there!

Why are all times listed in UTC?

We have chosen to list all times in UTC simply because we are an international event. Both Volunteers and Viewers come from all over the world and it is the easiest way to make sure everyone arrives at the correct time.

You can use a Timezone Converter like TimeandDate or WorldTimeBuddy to easily see what time an event is in your local timezone.
